If you’re planning a church wedding on a limited budget then you can become quite overwhelmed with cost-cutting decisions. A church wedding ceremony is both a visual and an aural experience. Unfortunately, I’ve attended too many weddings during which the aural experience was disastrous, simply because the engaged couple did not know how to stay within their budget, yet still have beautiful music.
When it comes to music for a church wedding know that you’ll need to set aside at least a few hundred dollars (or more) for a professional organist, and an equal amount for a professional soloist. If you cannot afford both, then go with the professional organist, and substitute congregational hymns for the soloist.
To help you out, here’s my list of suggested congregational hymns for your wedding. Each numbered item on the list begins with the hymn title, followed by the name of the tune (in CAPS). Do take the list with you when you meet with your organist.
